Beautiful, clean, experimental, modern, visionary.

DDW Dutch design week ended last weekend and the Eindhoven design school graduates also showed some of their final or latest ideas.

There was a strong statement in returning to our human roots. returning to natural beauty and connecting to our senses.

Wood was a special attention material, as was glass, and wool. It was a return to natural - almost sustainable materials.

A connection to simplistic design and familiar hand craft, hand made techniques.

Four of the Six senses were exposed to the test.

A project to explore the aesthetic properties of glasses and eyewear. the frame within the frame and an illusion give to the connection of all the parts.

The process of creating your own wine has been stripped down and divided into a beautiful process using refined hand made materials.

The Fashion circus started again this week, with the first of the Spring 2012 Trade shows.
Pitti Uomo.

Highlighting the hottest new trends and preparing the store owners and Fashions 'select buyers' to open the spending budgets for the new season!

Colour is definitely hot, but the influence of Japanese styles and creative flair was the most significant trend statement on view. The seas of men in Blue blazers and white pants with handkerchiefs, brogues, panama hats and vintage sunglasses was almost a Tsunami of Sartorial style.

But Brands such as Wool Rich and Haversack, were among the strongest and most creative combining workwear with a strong heritage tailored style.

Hand made hand love and beautifuuly hand crafted was the message.

Paris is full of colour

It's true, techno bright, hyper saturation, ultra vitamins, they all mean the same thing.

Colour is back!

I'm just back from Paris where the designer stores are looking fantastic!
Lanvin, Joseph, Mui Mui, Merci, Marni, Chloe, Celine, Stella Macartney, all looked great with super hyper colours for the new season.

Favourite colours were, hot pinks, orange, bright tomato red and a bright golden yellow.
Skirts are back, also shorts and seventies style trouser suits or high waisted, loose and fluid pants in new fresh colours.

This new statement in bright colours is often combined colour on colour, but also in strong combination with black, creating graphic contrast, or with white offering a freshness to the vitality statement.

The mix and match approach to colour was especially visible in Printemps which had a super vibrant statement, showing key pieces from Jill Sander Spring 11 collection, in the entrances.
Printemps have really comitted their consumers to colour!

It looks new, and dynamic.
I think us as influencers, have a role to convince the retailers too, so let's
"be brave!" and "go for colour!" for at least the next 2 years!

Go for colour.

Parisian cool would not be the same without the inclusion of a brand and visionary such as Marithe Francois Girbaut.

Marithe Francois Girbaut has re- opened the store on Rue Etienne Marcel, in Paris.

Creative windows.
Dynamic shapes, and cuts and inspiring ideas.

This season there's a new look, with another stunning shop fit.
A combination of modern techno and ecological warrior, the design of the new store us industrial with a laser cut innovative wood panelling mural, which seems to grow and move organically along the walls.

In the fashion collection too there are new statements.
Typical engineered trouser shapes are combined with asymetric blazers and global nomadic knitwear.
That is knitwear that has a nomadic feel, cut short at the back, and distorted proportions.
Structures in the fabrics give a vintage tailored outlook.

This look blends well with webbing tapes and nylon cords to create unique statements in wearing possibilities. Pull a little here, knot a little there.
Even this seasons 'must have' chino, is given the Girbaut twist.
Lightweight cotton is ergonomically shaped, cropped , and then tapered.
Refined gold metal details, and a fine tailored silhouette.

This was one of the best retail environments this week in Paris.

The style trend focus is all about sub-Saharan Africa.

The streets are noisy, the air is dry and the heat is a pure 40 degrees!

The palm trees are high in the sky and offering very little shade, but what do you feel all around you?

Nothing but vitality, passion, colour and cultural stimulation.

This is Africa!

“African style” comes and goes into focus on the western Fashion Radar,

but here in Accra, Ghana and Lome´, Togo, life evolves very slowly and fashion trends don’t really have a great deal of importance!

Think of the warm glowing light of the early hours, the sun is edging its way into the morning sky, there is a slightly misty layer of light appearing in the horizon, it is vaguely pastel coloured.

These are the "Faded Lights of Spring".

Warm pastel colours are this seasons alternative to the ultra bright colours, show by some designers.

The new shades are light, airy, dreamy and in combination with fluid styles, create a look that is totally sophisticated and supremely elegant.

Body skimming drape, gathered waistlines, wrapping and pleating bodies allows a statement which is comfortable and with a cool lounge style.

Silky materials and a nonchalant attitude create an alluring mood.

But take note, traditionally soft colours result in a very tentative cool start to the season, not here, there is nothing cold about these Pastels.

Pastels are truly making a 'come back!'.

The record LP, is something to really treasure. Something to hold on to while scanning a new album.

Something to stack and file and come back to months later, where was it recorded, when was it made. It is really history in the palm of your hand!

Well my madness began last night!
From midnight last night until 7 AM this morning, I could not sleep with the excitement and can you believe it at 8.00 this morning I could not get on. !!!

So I figured that, ok I will not be first in the line, but then I would try again at 9.00.
Then again at 9.00 AM still " busy!" so I had almost resigned myself to ebay and a high overpriced experience, until the call came.........

"I've seen the blue shoes in your size do you still want them???"

"Yes!!! Yes!!! I still want them!"

So I have them !
The blue shoes are mine!!!!!

So, I will have them in a week.

Keep on the look out, as my shocking, cool blue shoes, could be flashing in a neighbourhood near you soon!

Trends: the Lanvin H&M collaboration. It is driving me crazy!!

Lanvin and H&M!

It is here the Lanvin H&M collaboration!

I cant take it, I need to be out there! The doors don't open until 8.00am and then there are probably too many people in the queue! But I still want to be there!

It will be a bun fight in the cities near you. Launching 23rd November , which also marks the start of the party season, yippee!

This is the most creative 'must have' collaboration to date, and I think that, in honour of this I will wear my bow tie tomorrow!

It wont be a Lanvin, but it will have to do! I'm on a budget.

Get there early, queue or plan an offensive attack! You will need it, it will be wild.

It was launched in the US at weekend, and the new york stores were sold out in less than an hour!! Arrrgghhh help!

You have to check out the videos, the story telling of Alber Elbz is just beautiful. Simple stylish and creative. It just feels like he is having fun everyday and producing creativity in his sleep!

The cartoon has really come alive with the H&M videos where there are bubble captions for the girl who is offered Diamonds and slams the door in the guys face when she say, "I don't want Diamonds I want a Lanvin dress."

The ruffles and pleats are a Lanvin signature but really beautiful shapes and simple high quality ideas are never 1 season flashes. This is something will continue for a couple more seasons. The look is very timeless with a splash of modernity. Satin and taffeta, combined with zips used as external decoration and folds and shapes cut straight out of the mainline collection.

Entertaining in the New York, 'Upper Central Park' area, is the fictional setting of this scene, a scene where a look is created, a style developed by an inspirational collector.
A series of collected items, mixed with an inspiration from Yves St. Laurent.
A mix of European Style and Hollywood eccentricity.

New styled Grandfather clocks, bureaus and chaise longs.
Telephone chairs wrapped in soft high shine velour and gold gilt edges, beautiful old medicine cupboards filled with delicate dressing items, such as combs and mirrors, to stuffed huge real life size old Grizzly Bears and preserved exotic birds.
The accountants old writing desks, edged and laid with soft fine leather and perfect hand made studding make the perfect accessory in this look which has a tremendous amount of clever crafted details and a swing of forgotten opulence.

The key is Eclectic.
Armchairs, day chairs, single dining chairs. All of these items are visible with a little touch of something individually silent but collectively alive. The mix is carefully considered and thrown together in a way that is free.

A small table dressed with a 'Lamp of Distinction'. Long, elegant and refined.

We are almost out of our seasonal 'Hibernation' and we will soon need to know what to wear!.

It has to be said that SS2010 will be a season of fresh new colour palettes, where there is a new colour and a new word which will be added to our dictionary -

'Nude'- meaning skin tone (not everyones skin tone but the fashion skin tone!

Then next to that will need to be mentioned - The Stripe! But here in a retro 80's style t shirt.

part punk rock Sex Pistols, part Parisian Chic style.

Stripes have often been pointers towards rebellion, anti establishment and acts of aggression. Or across the channel it was seen as a wink towards the chic vintage bicycle cycling of nonchalant Parisians!

Stripes combined with White, Nude, Mandarin Black and Dune colours combine to give a graphical modern retro touch.
