Individuals of Style - #ThisIsParis 2, Chatelet.

As part of the 'Individuals of style', the search took us into the Chatelet, Les Halles area of Paris, where we met 2 stylish dudes with fashion on their minds!

Those were some serious pants!
This was a fashion mission with an individual purpose.
I love the mix with CDG Play shirt and the revival old skool, Stan Smiths. It really said fashion, but on my terms!

These are definitely a couple of dudes who know their A-Z of brands!

Bags of style and tons of cool attitude. Wait until you see the back of Luca's Coat!

Hang loose, keep it real and say it with a nonconformist conviction!
Thanks to Luca and Emilio, enjoy SRx

The Individuals of Style - #ThisIsParis Diversity in the Capital!

"I don't skate because its fashion, I just love it!
Ryan Skater in Republic, Paris.

"In the summer you can come here, to Place de la Republique, and see more than 250 'Skaters' -
It's just amazing!"

These are the sacred words of Ryan - the Skateboarding 'Passionista!' (someone who lives to follow their dreams!)

Ryan was here to perfect his skill in the art of freestyle skating. Heel flips, reverse spin, and many too complex for me to decode!

But the style code is clear to see, and is crossing the urban landscape of street and old skool skate!
Part preppy high skool, part retro , part hipster. Slim jeans, varsity wind breaker and lower east side Wool skull cap- all the giveaway signs!

Thanks to Ryan for being here to share his passions!
Enjoy SRx

The Individuals Of Style - #ThisIsParis 3

The message was simple- WE LOVE FASHION!

Clelia and AgatheIllustration students, interns and definitely lovers of fashion!
There is nothing in the world like the feeling of new shoes to give you that special smile and feel like you are walking on top of the world! Well, I think that was what they were excited about, or at least they were just happy to see each other - #BFFIt should be great a feeling to be able to share this passion for clothes with someone who understands! Fashion may not save lives- well not everyday! But, it definitely lifts the soul, or at least that what I say!So, when we see like minded souls, it's a moment to connect and celebrate in the church of all things fashion-minded! "Hallelujah" for believers and those who understand -and these two young ladies, who both clearly believe and understand!
Thanks to Clelia and Agathe for stopping and taking part, enjoy SRx

The Individuals of Style - #ThisIsParis. Diversity in the Capital 2

There is always something great, in that moment, when you capture a 'free' spirit, nothing heavy, no agenda, just light and unplanned.
This is the snapshot between friends who were content to be and out together to feed their desires-
A little shopping 'Entre Copines'!

It has to be about the sensation of realism.
Real life - Real contact- Real reactions!

There is so much happening in the virtual world, and talk about taking time "offline" that we become fixed on seeing life only through the machines in our hands!
AND THE INTERNET!
But real moments still bring a reassurance that its important to share........ and interact!

There was no reality TV show here, just a real moment of connection between 2 friends.
An off duty moment from 'Illustration design' and in-between, classical ballet lessons.
This is how they keep it real, a cool store, Killiwatch Paris, some new ideas to look for, to plan their next cool outfit and lots of Girls talk - Blah - Blah - Blah!!

Thanks to Melanie and Clara for taking the time to share!

Individuals of Style- #ThisIsParis

Avantgarde, underground, cool and modern.

That's how I would describe Alexandre's style here.
It was a look that had "Sports couture" written all over it, until you get 'up close' and notice some of the perfect individual details. Cool closures, Off centre details, the layered shorts, the crocodile leather baseball cap.

The touches of style masterclass.
This is what makes Paris - Paris!

The combination of urban style with touches of Y3 Futurism.
Philippe Starck would be proud of this man's Paris style just for this adventurous and forward thinking outfit.

It would have been very predictable to have seen this coat in black, but the Khaki shade gives it something else.

Alexandre is a Blogger who is passionate by fashion - Rick Owens, A$AP Rocky, music and a whole lot of other things all in the creative genre.

Check out his tumbler- www.youthofparis.fr where he creates and 'out- scape' for his talents and those of his inner circle!

Thanks to Alexandre !

Denim By Premiere Vision - Let the good times roll!

Claudio is definitely a "Denim head", a professor of all things blue!
I like to affectionately call him, Mr Denim.
Here he mixes his denim in a homage to classic vintage style. "Let The Good Times Roll"

At Denim by Premiere Vision in May, Claudio was in his stylish splendour.
He is a regular on the style bloggers scene, as he always manages to cut a cool mix of dapper style with a denim edge.

It must be, what I would call, "Denim paradise", at his home, where, I'm sure there are soooooooo many denim discoveries to be had.
Vintage, originals sourced from around the world, customised and personalised pieces, plus of course special one offs he has developed in collaboration with some of the best fabric mills and manufacturers in Europe.

He says it's not like that at his home,  ......"No, there are not so many, I don't shop a lot, really, but I do like to shop well. It's really about the quality not quantity!
Hmmmmm, I think from that you can read - ...........He "shops a lot and very, very well!!"
His wardrobe seems to go on forever!

It's always about great details with Claudio.
These jeans were made by him in collaboration with fabric mill, based in Turkey.
It's great to see the personal touch coming through with the playful mixed buttons.

This season, it's the return of the 'pocket chain', now focused in leather or twisted cords
- a little 'Scooby Do' style detail.

Thanks to Claudio, lets see what surprises he comes up with over the next 2 days......
The pressure is on!

Thanks and enjoy the denim journey! SRx

Amsterdam Modern Individuals - Individuals of style.

#ThisIsAmsterdam.
This is the new Amsterdam denim city, where openness and creativity run through its DNA, like the canals run through it's spiralling streets.
The Bluest of the blue fashionistas are here in growing numbers, why is it happening right now?
Well, it just fits the mentality, and the aspirations of a creative few....

Luca Perrone - Designer
In my continued series, "Individuals of Style" I include 5 great guys, with 5 different beards and one singular passion - Denim.

Last week, while at at the Kingpins Show, Amsterdam, I met up with Dennis, Luca, Emre, Clinton and Toychyro,  who all had a look which, whilst individual, had a message intertwined within their look.......
This is the look of the 'Modern Individual'.

Clinton James - Repair Artist.

Toychyro - Design Student

Dressed with a sense of style, it is their statement of personal identity that stands them apart. It is definitely a challenge to keep the look individual whilst identifying them on the next level of fashion. Some can say that this look has not changed, Ah but it has..... never quite staying the same! Some of the 'tell tale' signs are the tailored influence of fine stitching and carefully cut seams. The addition of the tie, the twist of a the tough worker boot, the refined needlework of their '1year no wash jeans! Yes, its all of these details, but of course the 'piece de resistance' is in their visible signature, their Beards. Longer, shorter, rougher, black, brown and 'eh ehem' -silver- ,  but always very well maintained!Long live the individual in all of us...... and if you can't grow a beard, you can always buy a hat!
Thanks guys for your time and inspiration!Enjoy. SRx

The Individuals of Style - Amsterdam Via London

"The boys from in and around London".

This was a great encounter on the Vijsel Gracht in Amsterdam, these 5 nonchalant guys, friends from school and colleges, were taking a trip to Amsterdam before going separately to some of the Uk's top Universities.

I bumped into them happily reminiscing over the night before! (Less said!)

Dom- Bristol University,
Flinton - Oxford University,
James- Bristol University,
Oscar - Cambridge University,
Isaac - UCL.

Who said having brains meant that you would have to sacrifice a sense of style!
These guys all have a statement that is modest, and collectively cool.
Thanks for stopping and taking part!

Good luck and maybe see you in a few more years!

Amsterdam Loves You.

THIS IS AMSTERDAM -a city known for many obvious things, but one which still holds many secrets. Things that you can only appreciate once you live there- and even more tellingly-
Things you will only discover ..... as the 'Passenger' song "Let her go"- says only discover how much you miss it when you..... 'let her go!'....

One of these lesser know attributes that take a grip on you slowly, like, after you have lived there for some time - 10 years for example, is its ability to drive you to accept peoples differences, even to the point of celebrating their individualism.

Its passion for the individual and a connection to your own personal style is something that I have come to understand as being very Dutch.

But this is in direct conflict and contrast to modern Dutch behaviour which is very "Inclusive".
For example - its very positive in Holland to be "Working in teams" and not in 'Silos'.
"Working in a matrix" rather than in closed departments.
A common Phrase is also "Lets connect over coffee!"

On this point the base of this concept is that the best ideas come from working together
See the the phrase 1+1 = 3 and is therefore better than 2.
(Took me a long time to understand this- 1+1 has always =2, but then I was coming from the Anglo-Saxon world- where things are very directive, as I was told!)

Conclusion, a shared idea is better than an idea developed in isolation.
hmmm need to check back on this.

The Individuals of Style - Amsterdam Style Cats

Some inspired moments can unearth some of the 'gems' of life....
Bubbly, buzzing and full of positive vibes, this young style- Avantgardista
(See View2- Amsterdam Street Style report-) ...........was taking her usual daily routines and choosing  to step out of the mainstream and follow her passion to work with children.

Probably the most stylish nursery assistant in Amsterdam.......

Sabrina - Passionate by children with learning difficulties-
(and of course in customising her clothes and fashioning her own look!)

Individuals of Style - Chic is the new Punk!

I heard a new phrase this summer- "Chic is the new Punk". I love it!
I took it to mean a 'new generation with new attitudes'.
I understood that while we used to be shocked by Punk, we can now be shocked by a new style revolution..... to be chic with a personal attitude - maybe we could see this as 'Blogger Style' as seen on some of the 'off moments' at the fashion capitals around the world.

This is chic in a more confrontational way, a new modern, less classic way.

In this new genre, we have new tools:

Our visible differences- same as Punk rockers.
Our use of colours and outspoken details - same as Punk rockers.
Our non conformity - same as ..... you get the message!

This is where we met up with Nichon, a photographer taking an 'off moment' with a friend, (who was about to be married) to have fun, while wild fruits and edible plant picking, in the Westerpark area of Amsterdam.
She had a great look and tons of fantastic energy.

Thanks for sharing and bringing a smile to many.
Enjoy SRx

The Individual of Style - Amsterdam Style Cats

It is always a pleasure to appreciate someones style when they assume it so well.
On seeing Maarten, whistling and carrying his fashion passion so naturally, it was inevitable that we would stop and talk. The hat, the scarf, the colour of the shirt, all bring this look into a style of its own, but of course, he should know what he is doing, as he works as a visual merchandiser for .... Chanel.

Great look and a great style.
Thanks for stopping and taking part.

Individuals of Style - Amsterdam Street style- Trends Acting Normal.

Making street reports is always unpredictable.
You can set out looking for trends and end up connecting with fashion minded free spirits. Then the deciphering begins. What is passion and hat is fashion.....?

In a few unique moments I am exposed to a micro snapshot of life and how people share and present themselves, my interactions with these "Individuals of style" was always short but very memorable.

I met, artists, photographers, students from London, painters, nannies, carers, performers, people who didn't know where to go next, band managers, gallery curators and a lot of creative dreamers.

Their presence in the streets of Amsterdam, nourished my creativity and mind in a way that I found inspiring- by their look, and honest by their commentary.

This is not in response to the trend of "The celebration of me" - Where the "selfie" generation, express their style statements for all to judge or reward with 'likes' or 're-pins', but this is my way to capture a mood of the moment and to share on a wider scale some of the examples of how people bring about their self expression- a new form of individual tribalism.

Thanks for taking part, you can enjoy the pages in 'life-size' in the magazine View2.
Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks and Enjoy SRx

Amsterdam Individuals of Style- The Style Cats

How do we define these 'Cats of Style?'

Talented - Passionate - Free Spirits.
This is the way to keep your ideas pure.
Keep them achievable, drive from your heart and always add a touch of style.

Mr CHRIS DIJKSTERHUIS - Photographer, Amsterdam Fashion Week  Nether - Better

The Individuals of style - Men of many talents

Sometimes you meet people whose aura attracts you.
Sometimes you feel that .."I would just like to share a moment in time.... of appreciation" .
.......and just sometimes you find that people are ......
- thinking like you and are actually just what you thought they would be..... "Like minded souls".

Lee Blackmon Music Maker - Dj and man many of talents.

I could see they had style, but I couldn't see that they were quietly working on bringing their dreams alive. - Men of style

This is one of the lesser known realities of life in Amsterdam.

Today we believe that life is about connecting and sharing - but in reality it is much more than this, and these guys know what that means - collaborations and connections with fashion brand 'Ontfront' - Amsterdam, and the Caveman fashion music lifestyle collective, bring them some great results and always with fun and a good musical vibe-

"Sharing doesn't mean giving away for free, it means joining forces in order to solve problems and tackle challenges."
Truus Dokter -It fits Trend Forecasting

Riquel Gilliad  Musician, Artist, Dancer and man of skills

Thanks for sharing the time and your passions on life.
Keep flying the flag- The Men of style.

Trends AW14/15- SS2015 - AW15/16 - View2 Magazine -

Look out for the new issue of View2 Magazine.
It features my latest SS15 Denim trends report, FW14/15 Amsterdam Street Style and also a SS15 Trade Show report of what's 'cool and happening' for the new Spring Summer season.
Enjoy SRx.

Trends - View2 Denim Most Wanted report by Sidney Rhule.

This is View2, the Denim Most Wanted report!

It's finally here - the highlight of the new denim fashion season, with the views and styles of the denim opinion leaders across Europe.

I really enjoyed making this trend report. It was quite frantic and often quite 'full on', but I had the fortune to meet a lot of very cool people, who were really, and I mean really, passionate about their denim!
We talked about true blue, heavily slashed, re-patched, unwashed, back to basics shapes, low crotch  and 'anti fashion' loose cuts.
We heard a few "for your ears only" the secrets of 'Thai farmers and authentic wash wearing', sorry can't say more.....
We looked for details in new shaped pockets, hand sewn details and an individual statements.
We looked back to some original truly innovative 'Type 1", oversized pockets.
(It is amazing that in such a short time (2006 until now) we could already highlight key styles, such as the Levi's Type 1, as already being market changers.)

But the true highlight and the most inspiring element of this denim season was seen in the attitude of the "New Generation" of designers, who all wanted to do things their way
Fair prices, simple cuts, excellent materials and well chosen trimmings.
This is where premium and authenticity have found their meaning.
Excellent quality, high end materials and a sense of hand finished attention

Some tried to look as if they didn't care, some acted as though not washing your jeans for a year and sometimes more didn't matter to them.... yeah right!

This is the crop of the best new styles and new trends in denim.
If you want to see the full 16 page article, you know what you need to do!
View2 is only available in specialist International fashion bookstores, so be prepared to hunt a little.

A big thanks to everyone who took part, and see you in the next season.

Blogshots - Amsterdam Denim Days - From out of the dark!

Clean washes, keep a deep and unwashed Blue tint.
The modern touch from G-Star at the Kingpins show, Amsterdam.

Blogspotting at Denim By Premiere Vision. Barcelona

'The Denim Blue Madness' continues with a 'zoom-in' on the cool style statements on show in Barcelona, at Denim By Premiere Vision.

Authenticity, new technologies and eco-social awareness were some of the stand out statements this season at the premiere denim fair. There was a strong return to a traditional indigo blue message, with  various authentic treatments. But one of the innovations which caught my eye,was that of Denim Knit.

Denim Details - The 1 year no wash look.

Authenticity is one of the keys to the right denim wash. With premium denim often connected to high quality, high priced selvage Japanese denim, there have been some advantages to going deeper into the research chambers to find that perfect wash.

Too many whiskers or creases and it will look artificial, too few and it will look flat. The path to the right washed look is littered with trials, tests and challenges.
As personal vintage archives grow, in order to be able to replicate authentic looking details, it is the work of the new generation to create their own statement.
"Our own skills, our own ideas, all done in our own way".

Did you ever wonder what happened if you wore your new, raw denim jeans, almost every day for more than a year?

Well, these young creatives tested it.
......... and these are the results.....

Diogo Aguiar with his own collection  - called Those Who Wander are Lost.

King Yu Yui - with his Lee 101 - 14 Months without washing. -
Only hanging out to 'air' naturally - (Honestly!)

Stacey Denzel Janmaat - with his own collection 'Dempsey Denim'.
This has a unique left side Coin Pocket.

The famous left hand 'Coin Pocket.'
- Because he is left handed ...... of course!

Thanks to everyone who took part. Enjoy. SRx

Denim By Premiere Vision - Barcelona The launch of a Brand New Blue.

Denim By Premiere Vision moved to Barcelona this season.
The mission, to launch the Denim directions for Fall / Winter 2015 or add confirmations to the bookings for Early Spring '15 and even top up on cool ideas for short term orders for Fall / Winter 2014.

It was a 'Hot bed' of new inspiration and new energies in Denim.
The newest innovations, the experiments of the last 10 months, if not, in some cases the developments of the last 12 years, have now come to light in what looks like a mentality change in the denim market...

The newest innovations are clearly focused on how to "Clean up your denim act!"

The people, the denim and the new Generation of Blue Mentalities.

Act ECO - one of the most inspiring new innovations, is focused on ECO. Highlighting how to wash with less water. In some cases, it is now possible to do a complete wash process, using only 1 cup of water per jean!
How? Through 'Nano vapour particles' and steam!

New WATER - LESS dying processes are now possible through fibre dying, before the fabric is actually woven, it is injected with dye, this way using less water and actually keeping a stronger colour longer!

ICE BLASTING now replaces 'Sand blasting'. A traditional process which required a huge amount of water in the finishing process. Now with ice blasting, water is frozen to below -70 degrees and then using high powered CO2 gas, it's blasted back on the jeans to create textures and original features. The next phase is to re-capture the manufacturers output of CO2 and to close the chain using their own, internally produced CO2 to create the new gas to blast the ice through. The design details achieved can replicate the original vintage details with 100% accuracy.

A New GENERATION is going it alone. Some of the most determined and talented new designers I've met in a long time, are taking on the big industry names and creating their own collections and products, with concepts that are not only creative but personally inspiring and individual.

Based on concepts around a perfect fit, a family heritage or just simply the right product at a new 'True price.' They aim to use their concepts, to reach a consumer market, who appreciate their energy and commitment.
They have an 'Honest design approach' which is fresh, and contagious. This is their power to communicate their passion and their ambitions. The restrictions of the 'Mass market' are not allowing them to express this passion. So..... with a little help from their friends..... they begin to share their knowledge and collaborate together on a new kind of denim and design partnership.

The ingredients are simple, a friend who is great at 'this' and has experience with washing, a boyfriend of another friend who has a 'vintage store' in the city, with a great collection of original pieces. Finally the designer, themselves, who have the inspiration for something unique, in their own way.

This was truly a 'Carnival' of new expression, in all things Denim.

This was the launch of the BRAND NEW BLUE.

Filterlife - Flash City Visit blog trends. Denim By Premiere Vision.
Look out for the full report, 'out' in September 2014, in View 2 Magazine.

To all the people I met in Barcelona, thanks for taking part. Be part of the vision!
